Rodeneck (near Brixen)

Yesterday the weather was very fine and I had a nice walk in Rodeneck. Now there are only few buildings like that in the picture: an old and characteristic barn of older times.

Bolzano - no snow

There i no snow yet near Bolzano, only on the higher mountains (above 2000 m asl, the Rosengarten in the picture below reaches almost 3000 m) some white patch can be seen.

Bolzano, rainy day

Rainy day in Bolzano. Just for a few moments the veils on the reign of Laurin (Rosengarten) were raised.

Saturday evening in Prissian (Bolzano)

Prissian is a little hamlet about 10 km from Bolzano. There was very little light left to take pictures of some remarkable old building.

Sunday morning in the former garden of the Kapuziner-Kloster (capuchin-cloister), now a little public park. An orienteering competition takes place: in the picture below you see the count-down for the start.

"Toerggelen" in Jenesien

Friendly gathering in an amazing rural ambience ("Buschenschank" as we call it in Tyrolese language), served with typical local food and drink (mostly home-made). This happened last Saturday near Bolzano (about 1 km as the crow flies).

Muehlbacher Klause

... a picture in a picture in a picture in a picture ...

Once upon a time, say 1000 years ago and for some century (roughly until CE 1800) this was a toll station, customs as we say today. In Roman times here passed the border between the Roman province of Raetia and the kingdom of Norikum. We can assume that on this point existed something like a stronghold. In medieval times here existed a border checkpoint between the counties of Pustrissa (controlled by the counts of Gorizia) and the county of Nurital. This is the endpoint of the Pustrissa Valley (today Pusteria Valley or Pustertal in German language); the endpoint on the other side is the little town of Lienz, about 90 km towards east, in Austrian territory.
The ruins we see now were restaured since 1978. During the month of november an interesting exhibition of artistically elaborated photographs can be visited in these highly suggestive surroundings: the ruins revisited through the eye of the young artist Giancarlo Lamonaca.
